Preparation is the key to success

It has been one heck of a week! It seemed as though every moment of every day was spoken for. At times I needed to be in multiple places at once and my attention was never truly focused on any one thing. I was helping my mom at her place but needed to program the day's workout. I was at my niece's volleyball game but needed to figure out what I was going to make for dinner. I was at a baseball game with my brother but needed to find time to blog. Every moment was being chased by another and it was maddening!

I'll let you all in on a little secret about myself: I love having a plan. As much as I like to proclaim how easy going I can be, a plan in place makes for a happy girl! As many details that I can outline for myself ahead of time before doing anything typically helps my [minor] obsessive and controlling tendencies to take a backseat so that I can enjoy whatever I'm doing. So with an already hectic week, it was a wonder how I would prepare for my weekend ahead.

On Friday we took a trip up to Fossil Creek. If you have never visited, YOU MUST! It's one of my favorite places in Northern Arizona and I always wonder why I don't go there more often. Once you've made your down the rocky and winding road from either Camp Verde or Strawberry (both pretty intense rides) you are met by beautiful rock formations, lush trees and the serene sounds of rushing waters.

We traveled in from Camp Verde, and once on Fossil Creek Road, it's only about 14 miles down to the falls but the roads are so bumpy, it takes over an hour to get there just from Highway 260. With no real way to get food unless you're prepared, I knew I had some planning to do in order to stick to my nutritional program.

The night before I made sure to prepare my small meals, snacks, and my lean and green meal before our 6am wake up call. There was no way I was going to get it done the morning of! I'm not even close to being a morning person so if it didn't get done the night before, better believe I would have stopped at Rock Springs Cafe and bought an entire pie to bring with me on my hike down to the falls. So here's a look at what I made for my trip:

In addition to all that, I made sure to have at least 6 liters of water for the 2 mile round trip hike from the Waterfall Trail parking lot to the trail head. It was about 80 degrees, a nice change from the triple digit temps we experience down in the valley, but the sun along the hike got a bit rough at times.

Side note: My pup, Hugo, was pretty stoked to test out his new hiking boots as he trekked along the rough terrain.

Once we got to the falls, I never wanted to leave! I mean, can you blame me? We swam, laid lazily in the hammock and watched thrill seeking adventurers jump from the top of the falls into the crisp blue waters. It was absolutely divine!!

Before hiking back out to our car, we got to enjoy our lunch in such a picturesque setting. Usually a trip like this would include a sub sandwich, a bag of chips and anything else that I could grab quickly at a grocery store and not have to put any thought into it. It was a really awesome feeling to be able to know that I could still enjoy the things that set my soul on fire while still staying focused on my goals.

It was a small event outside of my normal day but it could have thrown a complete wrench in my goals. Just because you have a goal and a plan on how to execute, there are always hurdles that may come between you and success. It's important to identify what those hurdles may be and plan ahead!

But remember, if you do fall, pick yourself up and keep going! Your goals are attainable and you've GOT THIS!

Bonus: Here's a picture of Hugo's silly mug 😂
